Macro Project

Pictures from the backyard.
Hummingbird feeder.

Tricycle wheel.

Many years ago, there was an old jet ski mounted over the pool to make it look like it was jumping from the water. The pool has been replaced with a jungle gym but the very unique jet ski statue remains.

Swing set chain links.

All about the details...

This week was all about the details!  This top photo looks like a martini glass, but it is actually a tapered glass filled with water, ice, and a slice of lemon.  I illuminated the glass with a small flashlight held underneath it and came out with an effect I love!  The picture below is a close-up of the lemon being sliced.  I love the way it shows the juiciness of the lemon with all its segments in detail as well as the grains on the cutting board. The above photo does the same, but the effect with the light gives the lemon (and the glass) a certain glow...  I think the warm color of the lemon pops against the cool blues of the water and ice in the glass.

This is actually the same glass of water (pre lemon) shot from a different angle and converted to black and white.  The photo was a little off center, so I cropped the right edge.

I have a number of old perfume bottles at home and these are a few shots of them.  I love the way the light reflects off of the glass.  I was able to pump up some of the reflected colors  in the glass in Photoshop which better shows their beauty.

I especially love how the blue bottle in the back reflects the two bottles in front of it...

This is a necklace of mine on top of a fur stole which belonged to my mothers Aunt Fern many years ago.  Aunt Fern was a glamorous woman in her day, and I think the photo captures the essence of her (although I am more likely to wear pearls with jeans).  I feathered out the edges to soften them up and draw the eye into the photo.  I like the texture of the fur paired with the smoothness of the pearls...

By the sea.. Week 3

I went down to Branford point and Long Wharf in New Haven

Week 2

I was down in Washington DC for a business trip two weeks ago. I had an afternoon all to myself so I went shooting around the White House. Here are a few shots I took..

I found some random kid walking by me and asked him if I could take a picture of him.  It came out pretty good.

Week 1

Hello, my name is Juan and I'm a senior here at AMC.  I've never been into photography up until last year when I bought myself a Nikon Coolpix P500.  I started using it around my house and with friends.  Unfortunately I joined the class a bit late but I'm very excited to learn more about photography/photoshop and get to know some of you.

Shadows & Light

Capturing shadow and lights this past week was a bit challenging. I hope you all can appreciate these images as some were shot in eagerness while other with some hesitation.

More Tunnel Vision

In the second week's images "Urban Enviornments"
I posted a shot of the Webster bank building,
it was a gold glass structure. This image captures the
shadows casts onto the paralleled building;
the New Haven Supreme Courthouse
I spotted this chandelier while walking
on the opposite side of the street. When I
approached the window I was able
to see how the reflections and
shadows played into the shot.

I thought the structure of these lights gave
off a nice triangulared image on this building.

I took a few shots of this pole trying to
capture the best image of it's shadow.
In 2 of the 3 images someone walked into my picture.
By the time the walkway was clear, the sun decided to hide
behind a cloud and this was the best of the 4.

Here, these are the clouds that blocked my shot!
The sun played a good game of hide and seek

I still am trying to determine where these
reflections of light came from....nevertheless
I thought they looked cool on the side of this building.

Week 4: Shadows and Ligh

I brought my camera around a few different places this week including downtown New Haven, Old Lyme and Fort Hale Park.
